One Tree Planted Project

Pictured are students from Mr. Robinson’s 7th Grade Pre-Advanced Placement English Language Arts Course. Inspired by Earth Day, these students completed a PBL activity where they were tasked with studying the impact of one tree. They accomplished this task by splitting the class into three groups: The Researchers, The Presenters, and The Labor Organizers. The Researchers wrote a report and concluded that one tree can combat pollution & deforestation. They provided the specifics of their findings to their colleagues, The Presenters. As a group, the Researchers improved their ability to create arguments. The Presenters created a visual display of this information and presented it to Mr. Talley, our Principal, hoping for permission to plant one tree per class. Their work on the soft skill of public speaking earned them the approval of the Principal and they transferred the remainder of the project to the Labor Organizers. The Labor Organizers drafted a plan that included each of their classmates participating in the project and ensuring everyone “got their hands dirty.” We are indebted to Mr. Mark Kirkland, The District 6 Director of Maintenance and Construction, for his guidance throughout the project and for the help of his team during “Plant Day.” Without their aid, and the aid of Mr. Matt Talley, this project would not have been possible!
