School Guidance and Counseling Services

The Guidance and Counseling Department at L. E. Gable Middle offers support to students through personal, academic and career development. The school counselors help students build positive self-concepts, set goals toward making healthy choices and resolve conflicts learning to respect self and appreciate others.

Based on the beliefs outlined by the South Carolina Comprehensive Developmental Guidance Program, the school counseling philosophy reinforces that:

  • All children are unique and should be respected with dignity.
  • Every student can succeed at high levels.
  • Learning is a lifelong process.
  • A comprehensive guidance and counseling program is an integral part of the total educational program.
  • The program provides opportunities and experiences as it addresses student development areas: Learning to Live, Learning to Learn and Learning to Work.

Academic Planning
Career Planning 
Consultation & Coordination of Referrals
Orientation Programs (5th grade Orientation)
Grade Level Registration (Rising 7th, 8th and 9th grades) 

Career Development Services

The Career Development Facilitator assists parents and students by engaging them in career exploration. Students participate in career exploration through South Carolina Occupational Information System (SCOIS) career assessments, classroom presentations, virtual job shadowing and presentations from the world of work and through the coordination of Individual Graduation Plans (IGPs).
